NEW YORK, January 2, 2024, 8 p.m. —A terrorist incident on Bourbon Street early yesterday has sparked a range of reactions within the Black community.
Some Black individuals expressed surprise and disappointment upon learning of Shamsud-Din Jabbar's race. "I thought he was from an Arab country," one person told Redding News Review.
Another individual told Redding News Review, upon being informed that Jabbar is from Texas, expressed concern: "That really set Black and brown people back. It's another layer of scrutiny that we don't need."
Even president-elect Trump seemed confused, writing, "When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true," Trump falsely implied, hours before the FBI identified the suspect as a U.S. citizen from Texas.
Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, is said to have killed 14 people, mowing down five of them with his truck. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to understand the motives behind this tragic event.
